The goal of our Anxiety self-test is not to provide a definitive answer as to whether you or someone you care about has a clinical diagnosis of an anxiety disorder. It is an opportunity to raise your awareness about how anxiety symptoms may be impacting aspects of your life, or the life of someone you care about.

As you read each of the following statements take your time to think about the answer, then click on the button if you believe it applies to you. Only you will be seeing the results of this self-test so take the opportunity to be completely honest with yourself.

  • Do you worry about things in a way that is out of proportion with the problem?
  • Do you have difficulty making decisions?
  • Do you have feelings of dread or worry that something bad is going to happen?
  • Do you have difficulty focusing or concentrating?
  • Are you absent-minded and forgetful and/or do you have feelings of detachment and unreality?
  • Are you constantly feeling worried, apprehensive, or overly alert and on the "look out"?
  • Do you avoid social situations, or spending time with other people?
  • Do you experience persistent thoughts, ideas, impulses or images that cause you significant anxiety and distress such as:
    • — Worry about "germs"?
    • — Worry about safety issues – is the door locked, appliances turned off?
  • Do you have any rituals or behaviours that you use to help reduce, avoid or manage this anxiety and distress such as:
    • — Washing your hands over and over?
    • — Checking things again and again?
    • — Arranging things in specific order?
    • — Continually seeking reassurance, asking questions, checking on friends or family?
  • Do you feel shy, or inadequate and fearful at times?
  • Do you feel more irritable, agitated and/or reactive than in the past?
  • Do you feel unsafe or at risk even when all is well?
  • Do you ever feel overwhelmed by fear, or experience intense and/or sudden feelings of panic or doom?
  • Do you feel tense and "wound up", or notice muscle tension?
  • Do you have difficulty sleeping or relaxing?
  • Do you experience shortness of breath or hyperventilation and / or feel your heart pounding, or palpitations (sudden awareness of your heart beat, or a fluttering feeling in your chest)?
  • Do you experience any of the following physical symptoms:
    • — Trembling or shaking?
    • — Sweating?
    • — Headaches?
    • — Fatigue
    • — Chest pain or discomfort?
    • — Stomach upset or nausea?
    • — Choking sensations?
    • — Frequent urination or diarrhea?
    • — Dizziness or feeling light headed?
    • — Hot or cold flashes?
