We are pleased to announce the introduction of a Group Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) program, to compliment the current treatment options available at South Pacific Private.

DBT was devised to specifically address the needs of those with Borderline Personality Disorder and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The aim of this treatment is to encourage clients to address their emotional issues and utilise new skills in a social environment.

The SPP Group DBT program is run in conjunction with the individual therapy the clients undertake with their doctor or mental health professionals.

In the Group DBT program, the client learns social skills and has the opportunity to practice the application of these skills in the group setting. The focus of group treatment and skill development is on four areas:
• Core Mindfulness
• Improving Interpersonal Relationships
• Emotion Regulation
• Dealing with Conflict

The wide range of skills that are taught and the emotional experience of therapy also make DBT relevant to many people, particularly those with mood disorders and addictions who act impulsively with anger and have a tendency to self-harm.

South Pacific Private offers weekly DBT based Group therapy for appropriate clients.

Family program
SPP feel that family play a vital role in the recovery process, and offer this program as an opportunity for both the person in recovery and their family to learn healthy communication and relating dynamics in a supportive, safe environment. Each client can invite 2 family members or significant others to attend, and participate in structured exercises to develop listening, communication and conflict resolution skills. Both family members and client will be supported in exploring difficult and challenging issues that may not have been addressed previously.

Family Week: if attending as a part of the Inpatient program, this will be run over the course of five days (Monday – Friday).

Family Weekend: if attending as a part of an Outpatient program, this is run over a weekend (5 – 9pm Friday; 9am – 5pm Saturday; 9am – 5pm Sunday).

Changes
An integral component of our Inpatient Program, this five day program is also available on an Outpatient basis. For anyone looking to improve relationships with themselves and others, this course investigates what is causing unhappiness, and how to go about making changes by: understanding the origins of adult behaviour; recognising your emotions and learning how to express them appropriately; learning effective communication and how to set boundaries with others.

Changes II
Building on the skills learnt in Changes, this course is an opportunity to explore unaddressed issues or blocks to recovery in a small group setting. There is a deeper investigation into the origins of negative behaviours or relational patterns, and explore ways to overcome whatever stands in the way of resolution.
