A Curl Curl hospital will host a public education evening on ice addiction in response to a jump in the number of patients seeking help because of the drug.
South Pacific Private says that while alcohol and cannabis account for most substance abuse cases it sees in the 37-bed facility, more people struggling with methamphetamine are wanting treatment.
Clinical director Dr Ben Teoh said ice was becoming more prevalent and challenging. “Ice is more complicated because it’s a highly addictive substance,” Dr Teoh told The Manly Daily. “A lot of places are avoiding treating people with ice because they can be quite aggressive. “We’ve tried to design a treatment program for clients with ice addiction, though we are selective and screen clients.”
Dr Teoh will be one of the evening’s hosts on May 13.
