The Silver Lining in a very Dark Cloud -22nd September 2014

Recently, widespread media attention has been focused on a variety people in positions of power and trust, and who have abused that position in the form of sexual assault/s. In 2014 Rolf Harris, Jimmy Saville and Robert Hughes (‘Hey Dad’) have all been accused of indecent assault on minors. Without wishing to delve into or focus upon the specifics of these cases, South Pacific Private wonders if there might be a silver lining in the very dark cloud surrounding the stories and histories on trial.

Medical and Nursing Students Join South Pacific Private’s Teaching Progra -14th July 2014

South Pacific Private is now currently involved in training nursing students from the Sydney Adventist Medical School as part of the University of Sydney.

As of October 2013 South Pacific Private began to train student doctors from the Sydney Adventist Hospital Clinical School of The University of Sydney. As of April 2014, we are now also delighted to announce that we are engaged as a teaching hospital for nursing students in addition to doctors.

Book Review - A day without Pain, Mel Pohl, MD -20th May 2014

Mel Pohl, MD, is vice president of medical affairs and Medical Director of Las Vegas Recovery Centre (LVRC).  He was a major force in developing the LVRC Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program.  He is a fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (FASM) and is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine – among many other things. 

He was also been listed on the “Best Doctors in America” list for 2011-2012 for the second year in a row.

Pain, Addiction and the significant increase in the use of pharmaceutical opioids -20th May 2014

The significant increase in the use of pharmaceutical opioids for the treatment of non-cancer pain and associated related increases in dependency and deaths has led to a lot of concern, particularly in the US.

The figures are alarming. Sales of opioid analgesics in the US increased fourfold between 1999 and 2010. In 2008 more than 14,000 deaths were related to the misuse of prescription medications, the vast majority prescription opioids.
